     Hulda Hlin Magnusdottir graduated in painting from the Art Academy of Rome (Accademia di Belle Arti) and has participated in private and group exhibitions in Iceland and Italy. She grew up in Copenhagen, Paris, Reykjavik and studied Fine Art in Italy, at the Art Academy in Florence, Venice, Bologna and Rome. Hulda Hlin also holds a masters degree in Art history from the University of Bologna and her thesis Color in the work of Matisse (it. Il colore in Matisse) is in the field of visual semantics / color theory.
    The exhibition is a visual journey through the world of colors. Colors are different wavelengths and have different effects on us. Hot colors make us feel warm, increase blood flow and heart rate; they include red, orange and yellow. Cool colors have a soothing effect, for example, blue, green and purple.
    Many of Hulda Hlin´s works contain warm colors and others have ice cold dominant tones. In her work we often find opposite color pairs, especially yellow and purple. This makes the images strong because of the contrast in the amount of light which is found in this color pair.
    The work Dreamworld (Hugríki) (oil on canvas) shows all the opposite color pairs: yellow and purple, green and red and finally blue and orange. However, the color scale is simpler in Violet pause (Fjólublá bið) (oil on canvas), with a dominant violet color that stretches toward red in the foreground and toward blue in the distance. The oil works exhibited are large in scale but there are a number of oil pastel and chalk drawings that are smaller in scale in which opposite colors often appear.
    The colors are the dominant component in the work of Hulda Hlin whether in painting, drawing or installation. The exhibition gives the opportunity to enter into the color itself in a color-space installation and feel the different influence of color as can be seen in Dreamspace by Maurice Agis. Colors light up the darkened space and have different effects on the viewer.


     Hulda Hlín Magnúsdóttir er úskrifuð í málaralist frá Listaakademíu Rómar (Accademia di Belle Arti) og hefur haldið einka- og samsýningar hérlendis og erlendis. Hún ólst upp í Kaupmannahöfn, París og Reykjavík og nam málaralist á Ítalíu við Listakademíuna í Flórens, Feneyjum, Bologna og Róm. Hulda Hlín hefur einnig lokið mastersprófi í listfræði frá Bologna háskóla og er mastersritgerð hennar Litir í verkum Matisse (it. Il colore in Matisse) á sviði merkingarfræði hins sjónræna / litafræði.
    Sýningin er sjónrænt ferðalag um heim litanna. Litir eru mismunandi bylgjulengdir og hafa mismunandi áhrif á okkur. Heitir litir hlýja okkur, auka blóðflæði og hjartslátt og má þá nefna rauðan, appelsínugulan og gulan. Kaldir litir hafa slakandi áhrif til að mynda blár, grænn og fjólublár.
    Mörg verka Hulda Hlínar eru í sjóðheitum litum og önnur í ísköldum ráðandi tónum. Í verkunum er þó gjarnan að finna andstæða liti einkum litaparið gulan og fjólubláan. Þetta gerir að verkum að myndirnar verða sterkar vegna þess kontrasts sem myndast í ljósmagni.
    Í verkinu Hugríki (olía á striga) má sjá helstu pör andstæðra lita þ.e. gulan og fjólubláan, grænan og rauðan og loks bláan og appelsínugulan. Aftur á móti er litaskalinn einfaldari í verkinu Fjólublá bið (olía á striga) en þar er einkum um að ræða ráðandi fjolubláan sem teygir sig í átt að rauðu í forgrunni en í fjarlægðinni í átt að bláum. Olíuverkin eru stór í sniðum en einnig er að finna ýmsar olíupastel- og krítarteikningar sem eru smærri í sniðum þar sem andstæð litapör fá gjarnan að njóta sín.
    Litirnir eru rauði þráðurinn í verkum Huldu Hlínar hvort sem um ræðir málverk, teikningar eða innsetningar. Á sýningunni gefst þátttakendum kostur að fara inn í litinn í lit-rými og upplifa mismunandi áhrif litanna í anda Dreamspace eftir Maurice Agis. Litirnir lýsa upp myrkvað rýmið og hafa mismundi áhrif á áhorfandann. Sjón er sögu ríkari!
